Portugal is now officially a 5G country!
It’s faster, safer, more intelligent, and the sign of a modern, high-tech country. Despite much delay, the fifth-generation (5G) network is now available in Portugal.
The technology is being provided by two major phone carriers. The remaining providers are expected to follow as soon as 2022 starts. So far, only big urban areas are covered by these new 5G services, but the end goal is much more ambitious. Phone carriers are obligated to make 5G accessible to 75% of the population in just two years and 95% by 2025.
Data is the new gold
Here at Easely Portugal we’re quite excited about this news. We’re talking about data transfer of up to 10 Gigabits per second, low latency, better coverage, and a strong investment in infrastructure and broadband quality.
As you’ll see below, each generation has been providing new and better opportunities for both consumers and companies:
1G | First mobile network | 1980s |
2G | First SMS and MMS messages | Early 1990s |
3G | First mobile web connectivity | Early 2000’s |
4G | The streaming era | 2010’s |
5G | IoT-based applications and data transfer | 2020 |
For businesses, 5G means better conditions for remote work, improved connectivity for digital content, as well as new automation solutions and AI technologies.
Major changes are also expected regarding product and process performance, especially in industries that can now rely on the benefits of connecting multiple Internet of Things devices.
2022: new year, disruptive changes
All these changes will be critical for international businesses, speeding up their decision-making process. As you see, Portugal is, in fact, a high-skilled digital country for you to invest in – and one of the best in Europe to do so!
