Portugal ranked 2nd in EU for new businesses

Are you thinking about starting a business? Then we have good news for you! Portugal is among the countries with the largest increase in new business registrations in 2021.

With a growth of 36.1%, our country comes after Ireland (+213.6%) and before Slovakia (+19.7%). According to the report from Eurostat, EU statistical institute, this is a trend among Member States – and a good one. When comparing to 2020, data shows business registrations rose 53%, with an increase of 5.3% in the second quarter of 2021.

Also worth noting is the number of bankruptcy declarations, which were up by 1.8% in the second quarter of this year. This comes after a declining trend since 2015. However, as Eurostat highlights, even during the COVID crisis many governments were able to support companies and avoid a bigger fall.
