Portugal is one of the four safest countries in the World!

There is no way around it: safety is one of the most important aspects when people consider where to travel to. In the case of people whose aim is to live abroad and invest in a different country, concerns about feeling safe are even more important.

Fortunately, foreign entrepreneurs seeking a competitive and economically viable territory that also provides high quality of life and overall safety will find an easy answer in Portugal. Why so? Apart from all of this, this nation also works as a gateway to the European Union!

The results of the recently published Global Peace Index 2021 (GPI) are interesting evidence of this. According to this annual study, Portugal is the fourth safest nation in the World, just behind Iceland, New Zealand, and Denmark.

According to a recent press note issued by the Portuguese Ministry of Internal Administration, 2020 has witnessed the lowest crime rate in more than 30 years of national registers.

About the Global Peace Index

Produced annually by the Institute for Economics and Peace, the GPI has been described as “the world’s leading measure of global peacefulness”. The latest version of the report evaluated a total of 163 independent states and territories, based on several qualitative and quantitative indicators.

The set of criteria used to assemble the ranking of the 15th edition of the GPI included the degree of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict, the evaluation of Societal Safety and Security, and the level of Militarization.

It should also be noted that 2020 saw the worldwide effects of the COVID-19 pandemic which, according to the report, has brought “a new wave of tension and uncertainty” throughout the world.
