The date is now official: new calls for the Portugal 2030 framework will be launched in 2023, with 4.6 billion euros in incentives reserved to strengthen our companies’ production capacity, innovation, and international expansion.
This next Community framework, a successor of the Portugal 2020 strategy, is under development and the various Operational Programs are being revised by the European Commission. This is thus an estimated allocation of funding for private investment, according to a government source inquired by the Expresso newspaper.
What changes will Portugal 2030 bring?
Non-refundable grants will be made available to reimburse eligible costs, just like it happened within the Portugal 2020 scope. Game-changing innovations, on the other hand, will be financed through both non-refundable and loan components.
In addition to programs like Qualification and International Expansion of SMEs, Portugal 2030 will tackle new funding opportunities for investment in digitalization and energy transition.
Large businesses, however, are no longer eligible for the Productive Innovation Fund. Nevertheless, they can still apply for R&DT funding, as well as the Energy Transition Program.
Do I have to wait until 2023 to invest?
In short, no. Calls for funding start in 2023, but companies can still fulfil important or urgent investments. How? By submitting a pre-application to the Productive Innovation incentive or the R&DT program.
Since investments made before the application process aren’t usually eligible for funding, this Registration Mechanism is a pre-application that companies can submit in order to move forward with their investment projects and still apply for funding as soon as the official programs are open.
