Portugal’s fame as a tourism destination is well cemented by now. The quality of life, sunny weather, and low cost of living are among the country’s most valuable assets, particularly whenever we mention the warm beaches of the Algarve or the multicultural charm of Lisbon.
But this week’s news is that there’s a new Portuguese destination you should include on your travel map: Porto. In fact, the northern city was recently voted as the World’s Leading City Destination, in the most recent edition of the World Travel Awards.
The ceremony, which took place in Oman this November, highlighted the Portuguese destination ahead of territories such as Acapulco (Mexico), Bogotá (Colombia), Melbourne (Australia), Hong Kong, or Dubai (United Arab Emirates).
More than a place to visit, it’s a city to invest in
Thanks to its unique cultural tradition, architecture, and gastronomic richness, Porto has become one of the most talked-about destinations in Europe, not just for people seeking a week or two of leisure, but also for an increasing number of Digital Nomads and foreign investors.
In fact, earlier this year, Porto was already acknowledged as one of the Greatest European Cities and Regions of the Future, ranking 3rd place in the category “Mid-sized Cities”, in a study promoted by the Financial Times.
And, yes, Lisbon may be the capital of Portugal and the city that host the yearly Web Summit event, but Porto is no longer a secret among the most attentive investors. If you’re wondering why just take a glance at its universities or burgeoning startup ecosystem.
