North, Central and Interior regions: this is where you should invest in 2022!

You may have read it before: 2022 is bringing more opportunities for foreign investment, with a little help from industry decarbonization and digitization plans. If you were uncertain about the place to start these changes, we have an answer: 70% of all current industrial investment is happening in the North and Central regions of Portugal.

Why is this important? For starters, these regions are channelling more business and creating more jobs than areas of a rather advanced stage of economic development, like Lisbon or the Algarve.

Despite the COVID-19 crisis, 2021 is a record-breaking year. In a recent event promoted by AICEP, Portugal’s Trade and Investment Agency, it was revealed that we’re on the way of reaching 3 billion euros in foreign investment. This is more than the capital raised in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

AICEP disclosed yet another major news: so far this year, 30 foreign companies chose our country to start their business. And many more are on their way.

Europe or America? Which one is closer?

Not only is the northern and central region enticing investors, but also the interior territories. Over the last 7 years, 60% of service providers have chosen this region to develop their projects.

The automotive industry, as well as components and metalworking, are rising the fastest in northern areas, having engrossed 1.650 billion dollars between 2015 and 2020.

International investment pushes the country forward

Much of this growth is due to entrepreneurs from France, Germany, Canada, and Brazil, thus proving how critical international capital is to move the country forward.

Why is that? Well, in addition to being the nearest European country to the US and with easy flight access, Portugal is also moving fast on climate transition plans and industrial automation.

And we are among the top 10 European destinations for investment. 2020 was also the year we made the top 6 destinations for software and IT services, registering 154 international projects.
